The setup guide

Work the setup checklist: what the badge counts, how a walkthrough differs from the list, and what skipping does.

The Setup Guide is a checklist of the configuration tasks that apply to you. It opens from the graduation cap in the header and sits beside whatever page you are on, so you do not lose your place.

The badge counts the required steps you have not finished or skipped. Optional steps never add to it — so a badge of zero means nothing required is outstanding, not that the list is empty. What is listed depends on your role and which features your organisation has on, so your totals will not match a colleague's.

The checklist and the walkthrough are different things. The checklist tracks what is set up. A walkthrough is a guided tour that points at the actual control on the actual screen, one step at a time — it shows you where something is; it does not tick anything off by itself.

Skipping is not the same as leaving undone. A step that does not apply to you should be skipped: it comes off the count, and the guide stops asking. Leaving it sits there forever looking like unfinished work. Skipped steps can be un-skipped.

The whole guide can be dismissed, and brought back from your profile.

Open the guide
The graduation cap in the header. It opens beside the page you are on rather than navigating away.

Read the checklist
Steps are grouped by area, with your progress across the top. The badge you clicked counts only the required ones still outstanding.

To see what it actually involves before deciding whether it applies to you.

Start a walkthrough
Some steps offer a guided tour of the screen itself.

It points at the control
One step at a time, on the real page — so you learn where the thing is, not just that it exists.

Leaving a walkthrough
Close the tour whenever you like. The step stays on the list — a walkthrough shows you where something is, it does not do the configuration for you, so closing it is not the same as finishing the work.

Skip what does not apply
Skipping is the right answer for anything your organisation does not use — Set Up Rates, for an organisation that does not bill by the hour. Open the step first so you know what you are declining, then Skip. It is marked skipped, the guide stops asking, and it counts towards your progress exactly as a completed one does — so the header's "N of M steps complete" moves and, for a required step, the badge on the cap comes down. It is reversible: un-skip it and it returns to the list.

Dismiss the guide
Once you are done with the guide, the options menu in its header holds Dismiss setup guide. It asks for confirmation, because the cap in the header goes with it — no trigger, no badge.

Bringing it back
Your profile is at the foot of the side menu — worth knowing, because the cap you would normally click has gone. Profile > Setup Guide > Show Setup Guide switches it back on and the cap returns to the header. Your progress comes back exactly as you left it, skipped steps included: dismissing hides the guide, it does not reset it. (The Reset Setup Guide button beside the switch is the one that does.)

Why your list differs from a colleague's
The steps shown depend on your role and on which features are enabled. Somebody without rostering permissions is not shown rostering setup at all — so comparing counts across people tells you very little.

A walkthrough does not complete the step
Finishing a tour means you have been shown where something is. The step is complete when the configuration is actually done — which is why a tour you followed without changing anything leaves the item outstanding.
